Last year, Microsoft announced its Surface lineups including Surface Laptop and Surface Pro series by skipping the company’s most powerful device, Surface Book. The Redmond Tech Giant has finally launched the Surface Book 3 and claims that the Surface Book 3 brings a 50% performance improvement over the Surface Book 2 which was released 2 years ago.
True to the company's goal of providing desktop-level power in a laptop form factor, Surface Book 3 is packed with some impressive features.
Same to the sizes that Microsoft launched its Surface Laptop, Surface Book 3 comes in two size variants — a 13-inch option that can be configured with Nvidia GTX GPUs, and a 15-inch version that can be configured with Nvidia Quadro GPUs. The 13-inch Base Surface Book 3 will feature the 10th-gen Core i5 processor and Intel's Iris Plus graphics. However, you can configure the 13-inch Nvidia GTX 1650 as well if you need discrete graphics on your system.
The 15-inch version, on the other hand, will pack the Core i7 10-gen quad-core processor in the base version priced at USD2,299. It's also coming with the GTX 1660Ti packed in. However, the GPU can be configured to Quadro RTX 3000 at a starting price of USD3,499. Laptops can be enhanced with up to 32 GB LPDDR4X RAM, and the 15-inch Surface Book 3 comes with 16 GB of RAM by default, which is a lot for most use cases.
Surface Book 3 has exactly the same display specifications as its predecessors. In fact, the chassis is the same size and same hinge design as that of Book 2. Surface Book 3 implemented its PixelSense display with 3000×2000 pixels for 13-inch version packs, while the 15-inch version comes with a 3240×2160 pixel display.
Laptops come with USB A ports, Surface Connect ports, SD card reader, and headphone jack for I/O. There's also a USB-C port here, but even now there's no Thunderbolt 3. Surface Book 3 also includes support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.
Microsoft claims a battery life of 15.5 hours on the 13-inch Surface Book 3 and 17.5 hours on the 15-inch Surface Book 3—that's pretty great. If you're interested in getting the Surface Book 3 for yourself, Microsoft is planning to make it available as of May 21, 2020.
